About me
My name is José Antonio, and I help adults rediscover Spanish not as a subject, but as a meaningful part of their lives — a way to connect, grow, and experience the world with greater depth.
I was born and raised in Spain and have been based in Chicago since 2009. I originally studied Law in Spain and worked briefly as a lawyer, but I soon realized my true interest was not legal practice, but communication, culture, and human connection.
That realization led me to a different path — travel, exploration, and ultimately a full transition into language education. I trained as a Spanish teacher in 2004 and have since worked privately with adult learners from many countries and cultural backgrounds.
Over time, my work has evolved beyond traditional language teaching. Today, I see it as personal coaching through language, where Spanish becomes a tool for intellectual growth, cultural exploration, and personal development.
Many of my students come to me not only to learn Spanish, but to stay mentally engaged, challenge themselves, travel with greater confidence, or enrich their lives with something meaningful.
I have extensive experience working with adults from diverse backgrounds, including lifelong learners, travelers, and healthcare professionals seeking Medical Spanish for real clinical communication. I have also written textbooks and contributed to educational publications in the United States and Spain.
My approach is highly personalized and conversation-driven, fully adapted to each individual. No two students follow the same path, because no two people learn for the same reasons or at the same pace.
What I offer is not a standard course, but a guided personal experience designed to build confidence, fluency, and a deeper connection with the Spanish language and the cultures behind it.
If this resonates with you, I would be glad to hear about your goals and explore whether this kind of coaching is the right fit for you.
